Commenting on a report from the Poverty and Inequality Commission, regarding the pressures faced by low-income families over the holiday period, Labour Poverty and Inequality spokesperson Elaine Smith MSP said:
"Labour in local government has taken a lead on tackling the costs of school holidays, with North Lanarkshire Council's Club 365 scheme ensuring a free school meal every day of the year.
"In the Scottish budget Labour wants to see an end to the two-child cap in tax credits and a £5 per week increase to Child Benefit, which would reduce some of the financial pressure on families and lift 30,000 children out of poverty."
