Commenting on the Scottish Government's announcement, Scottish Labour's Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health, Monica Lennon MSP, said:

“Scotland is facing a shortage of over 850 GPs by 2021, and the government's plans will not even plug that gap within the next decade.

“It is no surprise that GP surgeries are closing across the country from rural communities to our towns and cities, and the government have much more to do if we are to reverse that trend.

"Our GPs are at the front line of our NHS. If we do not properly support General Practice, then the rest of our health service will suffer.

“Labour built the NHS and in government we will invest in our health service so its hardworking staff get the resources they need, to give patients the care they deserve."
