Responding to comments made by Nicola Sturgeon about ScotRail at First Minister’s Questions, Labour Transport spokesperson Colin Smyth said: “This should leave SNP ministers who are chauffeured around in ministerial Mondeos in no doubt how angry Scotland’s commuters are about the service form ScotRail.

“If Nicola Sturgeon really believes ScotRail is in the last chance saloon she would have voted to exercise the break clause and terminate the contract early when Labour brought a motion to parliament last year.

“The reality is the SNP talk tough about ScotRail – but Abellio run rings around the government while pocketing hundreds of millions of pounds in taxpayer cash.

“That’s why we need public ownership – and why Labour will nationalise the railways."
