Responding to Nicola Sturgeon's comments at First Minister's Questions, Scottish Labour Environment and Climate Change spokesperson Claudia Beamish said:

“It is disappointing that the First Minister couldn’t offer any commitment to a plan for accelerated action on biodiversity beyond 2020.

“This report shows us that globally our natural environment is in a state of crisis. And in Scotland, 1 in 11 species are threatened with extinction.

“This is an environment emergency.

“Meeting 7 out of 20 of our biodiversity targets with just over a year to go until the target deadline is hardly a record to be proud of. The Scottish Government cannot keep failing to robustly support improving our biodiversity.

“Biodiversity deserves the same collective action and energy as we have recently seen on climate change.”
