Commenting on the findings of the independent review into the design, build, commissioning and maintenance of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, Scottish Labour's health and social care spokesperson Monica Lennon said:

"This damning report is deeply troubling, however it is an important step towards getting the truth about the dangerous failings at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“Vulnerable patients were unnecessarily exposed to risks and they were let down by SNP Ministers and the health board.

"This was supposed to be the SNP's flagship hospital and patients should have been safe there.

"Despite initial resistance from Jeane Freeman, Scottish Labour fought for an independent public inquiry to get the truth for families and staff whistle-blowers and that long-awaited inquiry into the scandals at the QEUH and Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh must get underway.

“The Scottish Government must reflect on its actions and make sure the QEUH and the mothballed Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh are safe."
